There is no way to truly quantify the impact that this global pandemic has had on humankind. In the wake of such disaster and standing beside the forces of nature, our vulnerabilities as humans have become abundantly more clear…
The story of Charlie Soul Clap AKA Lonely C’s latest release on Soul Clap Records begins at the beginning of 2020’s lockdown when the situation in America began to feel overwhelming, and completely out of control. In the face of uncertainty, As a longtime fan, Charlie found solace in the accompaniment of The Space Lady's Greatest Hits, rediscovering the power in her prose on Domine Libera Nos (Oh Lord, Deliver Us).
Originally from Pueblo, Colorado, Susan Dietrich Schneider aka The Space Lady honed an iconic sound through the late 70's and 80's performing on the streets of Boston, and San Francisco. To this day, the white-winged silver helmet, adorned with the flashing red light, her Casiotone MT-40 Keyboard, and effects pedals define her unique artistic character and style in both, songwriting and performance.
“The words really spoke to me! “ Charlie says. “Like please, we are faced with the fire and brimstone right now! From global warming to the pandemic to civil unrest and racial injustice. We need peace, we need love... But, at some point, it’s like... OH LORD DELIVER US, because we have so royally fucked up!”
Charlie went to work creating two versions sampling Domine Libera Nos, the original Rave mix driven by uptempo broken beats, and the gentler, stripped-back Deep mix. We want to give a big thank you to The Space Lady, to Cyrus at Mississippi Records, and to Benjamin Lieber for all the help and support in making this special release come to life!
